The Japanese love penis so much they throw a party for it every year

A penis is one key to unlocking great potential. The Japanese recognise this, so they throw a party every year that they call Kanamara Matsuri. That’s Japanese for festival of the steel penis.

Legend has it that a sharp-toothed demon hid inside the vagina of a woman, and decapitated two young men on their wedding nights.

So the young woman sought the help of a blacksmith who forged a penis that broke the evil teeth in the vagina. To be honest, we think they just called in Superman. Preferably the Nigerian-born Superman.

So the festival which started with a penis shrine in 1977, has held on the first Sunday of every April and has only grown bigger and bigger.

The Kanamara Matsuri or Festival of the Steel Phallus is held on the first Sunday of April at the Kanayama shrine. The shrine celebrates a legend of a steel penis and was frequented by prostitutes who wished to pray for protection from sexually transmitted diseases. Visitors now wish for easy delivery, marriage and matrimonial harmony. Because of the large steel phallus the unusual festival has become a tourist attraction attracting many overseas visitors and is used to raise money for HIV charities. Phallus shaped candy, carved vegetables, decorations, and a big parade are all part of the festival. PHOTOGRAPH BY Aflo / Barcroft Media UK Office, London. Prostitutes now visit to pray against STDs, and it has now become a full-blown tourist attraction. It is also used to raise funding for HIV research.
