Story

From Onyi
From the first time I met this prince charming in 2014, I knew there was something special about him. We got along so well & spoke like we had known each other all our lives and that was definitely the initial attraction. We became so fond of each other although we were just friends. I never had interest in long distance relationships especially with a “Yankee” guy as I have a very fragile heart (I didn’t want heartbreak pls 😂).

In summer 2015, he came down to Nigeria and we spent a lot of time enjoying each other’s company. I got to know more about him; he’s such an amazing man, family-oriented, kind-hearted & we have a similar sense of humor. But we were still just friends!

In February 2016 I prayed about it, “If he’s the right one for me he should get serious otherwise we should go our separate ways”. The regularity, length and depth of our conversations grew exponentially to the point that we started speaking several times a day, even as we were on separate continents. He got so serious (my God at work 😂 😂) that there was a Saturday we Face-Timed for 10 hours. After a few weeks, we started dating and he started making plans to come to Nigeria during summer. A month later, we realized our parents have known each other for several years and the bond grew stronger.

We both agreed that what we wanted was a lifetime commitment. While making our schedule for his visit to Nigeria, he deceived me by asking me to keep August 23rd open (In my mind, I thought he would propose on the 23rd and was saving my green dress SMH). On August 20th 2016, we went for a dinner at Four Points in Lagos for his “supposed reunion” with old friends but to my greatest surprise, I saw my sister (who told me she had an exam that day), our friends and siblings & he knelt, pulled out a ring and I said yes to spending the rest of my life with him.

I’m so glad that the different time zones couldn’t stop our effective communication. I am grateful to God that he was definitely thinking about me when he made Ifeanyi.

It was summer 2014 when I ran into this beautiful Princess (Onyi). She is kind, soft spoken and very intelligent. We became very close friends and spent most time on FaceTime (Always complaining on how much I use up her phone data). In my opinion, I’m not a fan of oversea relationship so I viewed our encounter as FRIENDS.

In June 2015, we spent quite a lot of time during my visit to Nigeria. I seized the opportunity to converse on a personal level and found out we have a lot in common. By late 2015, I found myself gravitating towards Princess.

In 2016, I realized that our parents have been mutual friends for a long time. I guess that gave me the confidence to revisit my feeling for her. After several late night conversations, I made the move to inform my parents on my decision to make her my bride.

On August 20, 2016 I put together our siblings and a few childhood friends at Sheraton hotel Lagos. To her understanding, she thought we were having dinner with some old friends of mine. As we stepped off the elevator of the hotel rooftop, she sighted her sister, friends and my siblings. Wasting no time, I went on one knee and asked the question of my life (Will you marry me?). She said yes with a magic smile on her face. I guess I will call it a JACKPOT!!!!
