From Olamide to #Olajumoke: These 4 stars are doing ‘local’ right

Nigeria has a strong ‘import complex’. As long as it is from The Abroad or has international exposure, then we love. It is not a bad thing to import quality into Nigeria, but this complex surfaces every time we make just as good home grown content suffer unnecessarily.

This applies to every sphere of Nigerian life, including home grown talent. But some people don’t give a fuck, they wear their razz like armour and shine with it.

1. Olamide ‘Baddo’ Adedeji

Rapper, king of the red cup, and self-proclaimed voice of the streets, Olamide thrives on being local, and everywhere he goes, he carries his army of locals with him. Olamide is that rare rapper who shuts down concerts in Nigeria. How about that? You can troll him or diss him for being razz, but Olamide will only leave you with one statement;

Leave trash for LAWMA

2. Mercy Aigbe

When Mercy is Osas the razz girl, she aces it.

When Mercy is the glamorous baby girl, she aces that too.

Lately, she has been on everybody’s lips because of the snob from the ThisDay Style magazine, and she had more than a few things to say. We just call it the “Local ti takeover” rant.

Hey Fam….so I just came back from church and decided to check IG only for me to see plenty tags on a particular pix posted by @thisdaystyle …..I read pple’s comments asking why Mercy isn’t on the cover and at first I wanted to waka pass, but on a second thought I decided to talk about it, cos it’s been an issue dat has lingered for too long!…….I thought to myself why didn’t Mercy make the cover of @thisdaystyle best dressed list?…. Has @thisdaystyle ever featured a yoruba actor on their cover?………are yoruba movies not part of nollywood? …..is Nollywood not supposed to mean home grown Nigerian movies? …..hmmmmm I am very sure they didn’t coz, they won’t want to STAIN their cover with a ‘RAZZ’ ‘LOCAL’ yoruba actor!….Yes I am razz, Yes I am local and Yes I am a Yoruba actor!…..No I refuse to speak ur almighty English with fake British or American accent!….Because I’ll always remain true to myself!…I am ME ….Proud Benin Woman, Proud Ijesha’s wife and above all proud Nigerian. …And just in case e still dey be una like dream ‘LOCAL TI TAKE OVER’ ….????????????

3. Olajumoke Orisaguna

She is the ticket that won the raffle, our very own Cinderella. Olajumoke-Ty-Bello-1She basically had the glass shoes thrust at her, we are guessing half the time she’s praying for the person who got her the job at the bakery. She is one of the most googled people on Google Nigeria for 2016. And it’s still March.

This is not about whether or not she’s going to be modelling for a long time, this is about what she represents for the masses —hope. In  fact, she is so iconic to the Nigerian internet that speaking about anything but the glam of Olajumoke will earn you the lynch mob.

4. Folarin ‘Falz’ Falana

Lawyer. Rapper. Comedian. Hactor. All round BahdGuy. If the cold war between the Nigerian ‘posh’ class and ‘razz’ rejects ever comes to an end, Falz will be at the front line, making it happen, since he’s a fine blend of both.

Everybody loves Falz. In fact, its almost illegal to not like Falz.

Bow down for the shampion of the peepu.
