A Nigerian woman just bagged one of the world’s most prestigious prizes in art

Njideka Akunyili Crosby, just like many other Nigerians at home and in diaspora, have been doing big things in her chosen industry, the arts.

This amazing woman works on works on paper to combine collage, drawing, painting, printmaking, and photo transfers.

She was born in Enugu in 1983, but moved to the US when she was 16 and has been involved in the arts since.

Her work revolves around her trying to find a connection between America and her home in Enugu.

Njideka Akunyili Crosby has been announced winner of the 2016 Canson Prize, an annual award recognising achievements in art on paper, given to an artist under 50. It remains one of the most prestigious prizes in art.

She once bagged the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s James Dicke Contemporary Art Prize.
